snow day!

Snow day. Therefore, random thoughts.

This horrible debating inside Christianity needs to die. Stop arguing and love each other, folks.

Why, when you accidentally bleach a shirt does it totally bleach and ruin - yet when you bleach it on purpose nothing happens?

Too often I wish I could say what my heart is feeling. But that would probably get me in trouble.

Hummus just might be God's greatest invention.

WHY can't I decide what color to ice my sugar cookies?! Life is so hard....

It's been snowing for like, the past 20 hours. Please stop?

I have sweet friends. Like, really really awesome amazing incredibly sweet friends.

The book of Romans has a lot of stuff in it. Lots of stuff I need to work on.

I need to stop worrying about my future cause God has it under control. How cool is that. The creator of the universe has my life in the palm of His hand. What am I worried about?

And now, a funny picture to end this post:

an observation on words

So today I was thinking about words, as I sometimes do, and it struck me how interesting it is that the same word, with the same definition, can mean different things to different people. For some random reason, I was thinking of the word party.

Party to a 5 year old means cake, balloons, and presents. Party to an 80 year old means playing bingo with friends. Even to the same age group, partying can be mean different things. To me, partying is watching movies and eating junk food with my brothers. To some of my peers, partying means loud music and lots of beer.

There really is no point to this blog post, just me and my random thoughts about words. They are different, they are cool, and some words mean different things to you than they do to me.

predestined to have a free will..?

Random thought of the day. If you are a Calvinist, and you are trying to argue/discuss/persuade a person who believes they have free will that they don't have free will..... isn't that kind of going against the very fabric of what you believe? Because if you, as a Calvinist, believe that everything is predestined by God, then obviously the person you are talking to was predestined to believe that they have a free will. At least from your point of view.

Just something to think about. :)

And as a side note, I'm not a Calvinist. Nor am I trying to start any arguments by this post. Just something that Mom and I were talking about.... and I figured it might make an interesting blog post. :)

thing #45792 that I do when I'm bored

And today, I was bored. Some of you know that I'm a dance costume designer/maker - and every now and again I like to design things that aren't dance costumes. I was on the phone this morning with my mom and we were having a conversation about pretty dresses... so I randomly designed a few dresses just for giggles. I wish I could draw better... so just as a warning, these look much better in my head than on paper :D And you'll have to imagine the colors cause all I had with me were normal pencils.

This one - in case you can't read the writing - would be orange and yellow chiffon (which is really pretty, see through fabric) - that has a bunch of layers (layered alternately, orange and yellow) so it looks like a sunset. The circles are clear rhinestones that will make it sparkle, and the side of the skirt is gathered up to the knee. The gathers make the fabric swoosh to the side.

This one is strapless, but it would have one of those little scarf/wrap things that would go around the shoulders. The bodice (top of the dress) is a dropped waist, and it's made out of hot pink satin. The little swirlys are made out of clear sequins that are sewn on the bodice in that shape. The bottom is like a million layers of hot pink chiffon so it's really flowy, and the back of the dress is a bit longer than the front.

This dress is strapless too, but it would look pretty with a shrug on top. It's an A-line dress made out of burgundy satin, with a cutaway part coming down from the waist line. The inside - under the cut-away is light pink satin, and there are fabric flowers that run down the burgundy part where it cuts away. They are pink/burgundy tie dye... well, not really tie dye but basically those two colors swirled together. The top of the dress has a few layers of pink ribbon sewn on the sweetheart neckline.

So that's what I did today. :D If you actually read all that - you get a gold star! I know that it's probably like Greek to a lot of you.... I know it is to my family and they get lost when I talk about it. And if any of you feel like you want to buy one of these dresses - let me know and I'll sew one up!! :D :D :D

compliments

If you know me even just a little bit, you might know that I have a pet peeve. Kind of a big one. And it's when people kill compliments. There's nothing worse than telling somebody they are awesome, or they are doing something awesome, then to have them come right back at you with a "nooo I'm not". Really? Did I just lie then? Did I take time out of my day to lie to you right there? And not that it's about wasting time, but seriously if someone cares enough to give you a compliment, that should mean a lot to you. Even if you think it's not true in your own head, don't say it out loud! Thank them! Or better yet, use it to turn the conversation to the One who made us awesome. "You're awesome!!" "Well, if I am, it's because I know Jesus and HE'S awesome!" (example conversation)

So yeah, that's one of my pet peeves. Accept compliments. Smile when you say thank you for whatever compliment you've gotten. Try it sometime - it's a good thing! Oh and on the flip side of that - make sure you give compliments too. Everyone loves a positive, compliment-giver person. ;) :)

Oh, one more thing, just to cover my bases, I'm not saying I do this perfectly either. I fail A LOT. But it's just something I try to keep in the back of my mind - don't kill compliments. don't kill compliments. :)

hello!

hello, folks! It's 2am, and I really wanted to do a video blog, but I feel like if I wanted to still be alive tomorrow, I probably shouldn't talk and wake my entire family up. Not a great idea. So here you are, stuck with boring words on a page. :( Maybe if I remember (and have time) I'll do a video blog tomorrow.

So what is new? Life is busy! And I like it when life is busy. Life is too short for it to not be busy, right? Right! Anyways, I just got back from an epic weekend in California - spent it with my college buddies. To say the least, it was a blast and I'm so glad I went.

How else is life busy.... usual stuff (my life is boring, but busy). Dance, costumes, teaching. Chilling with my family. Being social every now and again (or trying). Life doesn't change a whole lot! Which I suppose is a good thing. Maybe.

Aaaaand I think I'm starting to ramble. So let's end this post and do a video blog later. Sounds good. Cheerio!!

OH! random side note! I added photos to my 'more about me' page 8-) just in case you cared.
