because I should post a short post every once and awhile

Listening to Coldplay. Drinking hot chocolate. Talking with a good friend and laughing with her. Watching it snow outside and thinking that I don't want to go out there and drive. Ice. Not cool. Thinking about how great my God is. Believing that it is my life and I can be who I want to be. But also realizing that who God wants me to be is more important. Singing along with Chris Martin - "when she was just a girl she expected the world, but it flew away from her reach, so she ran away in her sleep. and dreamed of paradise." Yes, this is a good life.

I'd give Monet an "F"

As mentioned in my last post, I'm now a substitute teacher! And I love it. On a day in January I will be subbing for the art teacher.... which made me think. Art is a school subject? Really? Something that has assignments, and papers due, and grades? This puzzles me greatly.

In my random and humble opinion, art is not something to be graded - I don't think it even can be graded. How can you look at two paintings (for example) and say that one is better than the other? Say that one gets an "A" and one gets a "C"? I don't understand it.

Art is the desire of a man to express himself, to record the reactions of his personality to the world he lives in.  -Amy Lowell

When you express yourself, I don't think anyone has the right to tell you that you 'passed' or 'failed' in doing so. I'm a huge fan of art classes (naturally - I'm a dance teacher) but getting graded on your artwork just doesn't make sense. Does this confuse you too or is it just me?

(oh, and p.s., the title is supposed to be on the funny/sarcastic side of things.. in case you didn't pick that up :) )

India Street? I think yes. ha ha ha

It's been too long since I have blogged! Sad! But rest assured, I have been thoroughly enjoying my Christmas vacation. Well, except the past like 4 days - got my wisdom teeth out - and it was kinda torturous. I will spare you the details, and happily say that I didn't die (although I came close, no lie) - and while I still look like a chipmunk, the worst is over!!

Last week I did get to spend 3 happy days with my sister and her new-as-of-6-months husband :) The time was glorious! We cooked, and shopped, and took photos, and laughed, and played games, and stayed up too late.... I haven't had that good of a time in a long while. It was epic - thanks sis. :)

What else is new? My parents went to CA for a week - that was fun for them. And fun for the kids who partied back home... oohhhh yes :D :D
They actually got a cool photo....

Yes, in San Diego, there is an India Street! Sweet, yeah? I was kinda thrilled. (and I find it overly hilarious that it's a one way.....!!! heheheh)

What else is new - have I mentioned that I have a new job as a substitute teacher? I'm teaching at a local private Catholic high school - and I love it. The people are nice, the kids are great (so far) - and I get to teach. Doesn't get much more awesome than that! :)

So -  to end this horribly long post - happy new year, folks! Hope this year is epic and I pray that God richly blesses it! Here's to an amazing and adventurous 2012 *cheers*
